Eagles Sports Complex started as an idea from the Mount Gravatt Youth and Recreation Club Inc. — get local kids and adults playing sport, on a proper ground, close to home. Six decades on, that's still exactly what happens here, at F.R. Caterson Park on Weedon Street West, Mansfield.
The Club is a not-for-profit, and it remains the governing body of the complex today. Day-to-day running — bookings, maintenance, the caretakers who unlock the gates on a Saturday morning — sits with GC Leisure, but the direction and the purpose are still set by the same community body that started it.
What began as fields has grown into a genuine multi-sport site: three outdoor fields under lights, two indoor sprung courts, a purpose-built baseball diamond for the Mt Gravatt Eagles, a newly fitted multipurpose room with its own kitchenette and balcony, and a canteen that's been feeding players and spectators for as long as anyone can remember. None of it replaced what came before — it was built around it, one upgrade at a time.
The mission hasn't changed either: promote participation in sport and recreation for the whole local and wider community, provide a safe and well-maintained facility to do it in, and make sure that participation is open to everyone — socially or striving for representative honours — without discrimination on any grounds.
Today the complex is home to FC Brisbane (formerly Wishart Eagles FC), the Mt Gravatt Eagles Baseball Club, and the South Brisbane Eagles Hockey Club's junior program, alongside a Futsal Academy, school holiday camps and a Friday night competition that's been running for years. Local schools, visiting clubs and community groups use the site constantly, right alongside Brisbane City Council and Queensland Government partners who back the facility.
What we're actually here to do
Eagles Sports Complex acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and recognises their culture, history, diversity and deep connection to the Land, Seas and Waters of Queensland.
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which our venue stands, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and future. That respect underpins how we run this site — as a place held in trust for the whole community, not owned by any one club or code.

Sound, well-maintained facilities
A safe, high-quality complex is the whole job. That means real upkeep — floodlights, sprung floors and change rooms that actually work.
Good sportsmanship, always
Sound management and equity between every user group, encouraging clubs, schools and community groups to keep using the site.
What actually makes this place different
It's easy to lump any local sports venue in with a commercial gym or a single-sport club. Eagles Sports Complex isn't really either.
Multi-sport, not single-code
Soccer, baseball, hockey, futsal, basketball, volleyball, netball, muay thai, taekwondo, wheelchair rugby, roller derby — one site, ten-plus codes, instead of one sport chasing the whole calendar.
Community-owned, not corporate
Run by a not-for-profit formed by locals in the 1960s, not a franchise chasing membership targets. Surplus goes back into the facility, not shareholders.
Multi-generational, not a trend
Families here span grandparents to grandkids on the same fields. That's what sixty years of continuity actually looks like on the ground.
